Vypin is one of the islands that make up Kochi, a city in the Indian state of Kerala. Vypin is a barrier island located between the Arabian Sea in the west and the Cochin backwaters formed by the different Periyar river distributaries in the east. The island’s northernmost point is the Periyar River estuary in Muziris, and its southernmost point is the Cochin Backwaters at Fort Vypin in Kalamukku. The island is around 27 kilometers long and is connected to the mainland of Kochi by the Goshree bridges. Vypin is the world’s 58th most densely populated island. Njarakkal is one of Vypin’s most heavily populated areas.
