Tromelin Island is a small, flat French island located in the Indian Ocean, approximately 500 kilometers north of Réunion and 450 kilometers east of Madagascar. Tromelin is managed as part of the French Southern and Antarctic Lands, a French Overseas Territory, but the island is claimed by Mauritius. Tromelin has scientific expedition facilities as well as a weather station. Both birds and green sea turtles use it as a breeding location.
