Mannar Island is located off the northwestern coast of Sri Lanka and is part of the Mannar District. A causeway connects it to the main island of Sri Lanka, as does the Mannar Bridge, which carries the A14 roadway and a railway bridge. It covers approximately 130 square kilometers and is mostly covered in flora and sand. Fishing is a significant economic contributor. Mannar island now has the largest wind harness in Sri Lanka. Mannar and Erukkulampiddi on the island’s eastern coast, and Pesalai on the island’s northern shore, are the principal communities, all connected by the A14 road that travels across the bridge to the mainland.
